About

"The Truth Is a Sphere" (2025)

The Truth is a Sphere, is an experiment in political organizing; glitching and remixing authoritarian fictions by means of collective participation. Fictionalized television serials centered in and around the Oval Office stream into our homes and personal devices. These fabricated realities limit imaginative possibilities of self-governance, often re-enforce existing hierarchies, and passive consumption disrupts collective agency. On their own, each episode is a relatively minor player but, all together, they form a potent tentacle of U.S. soft-power. Each piece seen here originates as an expropriated video still from an Oval Office serial that is then reproduced serially (screen printed) using mostly discarded acrylic inks. The Truth is a Sphere repositions the role of the artist as one of activist and organizer, rather than centering the auteur as the sole imaginative force. In this example, the artist facilitates participatory acts amongst both human and non-human actors. The use of bodily fluids applied to the paper, like saliva and sweat, evidence a collective desire for visceral connections that transcend the limits of individual bodies, while rot and decay suggest the possibility of boundary breakdowns between binaries. These abject and somatic methods, the fusion of low and high-culture media, and the use of second-hand tools become strategies for transforming the fictions that paralyze our agency and collective imagination. What emerges in their place are novel fictions, conjunctively shaped, that challenge individualism and the hegemony of our most sacred institutions.
